Costumes are Mandatory!

People had such great ideas for costumes!
There was the Mummy & Cleo, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, The Booths came as the Allens and the Cardens came as the Parks! Beyonce & Justin Timberlake made an appearance, few of the Star Trekies beamed in, the bunny dippin' French Maid kept us well in line, and desert storm trooper brought Ariel. Ofcourse, what would a party be without the angel and the devil!

When you make the costumes mandatory, people get creative!

Halloween Party Decorations

Elizabethan Style: Details, Details & Props

When decorating your house for the Halloween party, remember the details. Cleverly placed halloween items go a long way for getting the guests in the mood.
Elizabeth Allen shows us how she got her house ready and the rule #1 is Get into a costume yourself!!! Halloween party isn't the same without the host & hostess dressing up for the occasion. Shown in the first picture, she is the high priestess mummy.

For the house, she placed black candles and small votive of candles all around her house accented by candy corns. Little accents of pumpkin man and skeletons showed up in corners of the house, here and there. Cute cones stuffed with Halloween colored paper grass hung from every chandelier and wines all had labels that were specific to the Halloween theme. (She found those at World Market). Lastly, pumpkins and gourds were found in strategic places for color and seasonal accents. We did place some flowers in vases at each table but Fran Darden Carden says, "Never, Ever use Mums." ...DARN! We'll never get into that Garden club!

For food, we served Herb Crusted Salmon & Chicken, Baked Acorn squash with peas and toasted pine nuts, Basmati rice with currants, and Autumn salad. For Herb Crusted Salmon recipe, click on this link:

Halloween Invitation: "Bone Chillin' Halloween Invitations

How to make the
Bone Chillin' Halloween Invitations
1. We found some candy in the shape of finger bones. This was the element that tied everything together. We tried to come up with fun things we can say on our invitation that had the word "bone" in it.

2. We came up with "Make no bones about it, You're comin!" and printed them out as long tags. We left some room at the head for a hole so that we can tie it to the finger. We then tied a small plastic spider along with the tag for added touch.

3. We printed out the invitation that said "Your invited to our Bone-Chillin' Dinner Affair"
Time, date, place, and RSVPs were all included. Then we cut them out with scissors. Oh. Definitely make the costumes mandatory.

4. We filled the chinese take-out boxes with multicolored paper grass. Then we placed the invitation and the finger bones on top.

5. We secured it with tissue, then closed it up. Now stick the address label and stamp on top and mail it just like it is, in the Chinese take-out box!

Just imagine your guests receiving their invitations in the take out box, opening them up and finding finger bones and cute messages. It's a great way to let them know what a special evening it will be.
